There are many reasons why war starts. One of them is economic competition. For example, there is still economic competition throughout the world and especially between the U.S and Iraq. There are also many expected and unexpected outcomes of wars. One positive, unexpected outcome of the Crusades on Western civilization was the greatly expanded knowledge of geography gained by the West. Another positive unexpected outcome for the Muslim civilization was that the Christian Kingdom of Jerusalem returned to the Muslims. Another example is World War I. After the war, France was repaid for the losses suffered. Germany gave them full and absolute possession, exclusive rights of exploitation, and free from all debts and charges of any kind. As a consequence for the war, Germany had to pay for all of the damage and accept the responsibilities that came along with it. Geographical factors play a critical role in determining how a war is fought. The total land area of the country, the number of natural resources in the conflict zone, and the duration of the conflict based on the size of the country. Also, if the neighboring/conflicted country has a different ethnicity or religion. Here are some examples why: 1. Sovereignty indicates that a particular government has complete control and jurisdiction over a defined area. It also indicates power, and allows a government to have complete authority over what goes on within its territory. 2. The consent of the people gives a government internal legitimacy, whereas outside recognition by all other governments gives a government external legitimacy. 3. Chiefdoms, feudal systems, city states, and empires. City states and empires are territorial. 4. Colonies are parts of an empire that are subordinate and have very little right to self-determination. 5.
