For my animal project I choose to write about a gorilla because they are big and strong. They walk and act like humans. They climb trees very fast to hide from humans. Human hunts them as meat. Gorilla’s takes a very long time to eat because they are so big they have to eat a lot of food. They live in the rain forest on trees and they make a new home every day. Gorillas live in tropical rain forest, wet lowlands forest, swamps and abandoned fields. They live in Western Africa. Gorillas are one of the closet living relatives of human. They have large brains and are very intelligent. There name’s comes from the Greek word "gorillai" meaning “tribe of hairy women.” When explorers first saw them they thought they were a strange tribe of people. Gorillas have senses just like ours, including hearing, sight, smell, taste, and touch. Gorillas are large and fearsome looking. A gorilla’s whole body is covered in thick dark hair except on the face, ears, hands, and feet. Their hair does not molt when it grows. There average weight is about 500 pounds. They have fur. Gorillas have 32 teeth’s just like humans. They have canines, which are sharp, curved teeth at each side of the mouth. Gorillas have arms with five fingers that are much longer than their legs. They have two legs that are short with five toes and a bulky body with a wide chest. They have two eyes on the front of their face and small ears on the sides. They have the same body parts as humans. Gorillas use both their arms and legs to move around. They walk on the knuckles of their fingers curled underneath, and on the soles of their feet. Gorillas move by knuckle-walking. They are fast moving. It’s important to its survival because humans hunt them for food. They also use it for finding food. Gorillas eat mostly plants. Gorillas eat juicy stemmed twigs, grasses, leaves, flowers, berries and bark that grow on the forest floor. Sometimes they eat termites and ants. They
