Smoking can be deadly. Smoking releases a toxic fog of ammonia and hydrogen cyanide, which can be especially harmful on an infant's developing lungs. Smoking can even contribute to disorders such as impaired lung function. Kids shouldn't be exposed to Smoking and neither should you. Although there are 5 million Tobacco deaths in Canada every year, people still smoke. Some public health strategies are being used by the government to help reduce and prevent the problems that come with smoking. one strategy that is being used is to visually deter the smokers away from smoking. On many cigarette packs, pictures of destroyed lungs, teeth, and skin are shown. This is presented in hopes of decreasing the addiction. There are also ads on bus shelters, in buses, in doctors’ offices and on the television that try to communicate this message. Not only is the smoker persuaded not to smoke, but that this action can also severely harm their loved ones through second hand smoking. Another strategy that has been used to prevent this addiction is by increasing the age of smoking. Perhaps with increased age comes increased maturity, to know that being addicted is not just bad for your health but also bad for your self-esteem. They are trying to reduce harm and disadvantages/disparities associated with and caused by the continuing use of and dependence on tobacco and nicotine; and ultimately create tobacco-free societies. Why is it necessary? These protocols are necessary because without the strategies there would a lot of smoking and disorders due to the pristine chemicals a cigarette has leading to second hand smoking which is not good for anyone. It is very important that our public health sector helps remind the citizens of the harms of anything that is readily available.
