William Zinsser points out the most common college pressures in the essay "College Pressures," but expresses his thoughts and wishes for students’ learning methods. Besides acknowledging the pressures in a college life and showing empathy towards students, parents and possibly the professors, Zinsser does not focus on those things. He believes that students should explore the different ideas education gives. William Zinsser is intrigued by inquiring minds, he does not car for the grades students achieve, but for their minds. Zinsser wants students to enjoy the opportunities along with the different routes the learning process offers. He wants change in the educational system. A paved road to success would be nice, but William Zinsser believes that there should not be such a perfect road. Students concentrate on achieving a planned out future along with good-looking transcripts. Zinsser mentions that how one appears on paper is more important than how one appears in person. That could be so, but Zinsser does not seem to like that transcripts matter more to students than expanding their minds through education. Because America does not accept failure, William Zinsser wants the readers to see that America is now having young kids grow up old. He wishes that students could experiment. In College Pressures, Zinsser says how he wishes students could trip and fall so they can learn that defeat is as instructive as victory. He realizes there are pressures, but believes that they are missing many opportunities in life looking and obsessing toward success instead of looking for variety in their learning experiences. A successful and educational background is something to be proud of, though curiosity and willingness to learn different things could also be of much success.
