"Discipleship" is defined by Anderson (2003) as “an encounter with God” (p.14). The second theme identified by Anderson which is used in the counseling session is Jesus as the Wonderful Counselor. Christ is given authority in the Bible. In Isaiah 9:6 shows the authority given to Jesus. Isaiah 9: 6 states "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting father, the Prince of peace." Christ's authority is clearly stated in the Bible and there is no confusion or theories that can refute this authority as a metaphor. Anderson uses this as a basis to include Christ's authority as well as the Bible as in the counseling sessions. “Discipleship counseling does not require the exercise of any special gifts; instead, it requires dependence on God, Christ like character and the ability to apply truth” (Anderson, p. 199). The first theme is Jesus as the Wonderful Counselor. The Bible shows that Isaiah 9:6: "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting father, the Prince of peace” (King James Version). The Bible clearly defines Christ's authority and Anderson this biblical evidence as a basis to use Christ's authority in the counseling sessions. Anderson cites that part of the discipleship counseling involves the integration of God into the counseling session. The base of discipleship counseling is God’s word and developing trust with others. Anderson believes that the requirement for counseling is to possess knowledge of God’s word and the true characteristics of God. Anderson view discipleship counseling as the encourager. He explained that the role of the encourager is to encourage and build relationships with God. This relationship is significant and in alignment with the role of a counselor because it help to motivate the client as well as the counselor. The encourager role is to facilitate and incorporate the word of God into the counseling and to incorporate the skills and technique of the Christ the counselor. The second theme that Anderson focuses on in his book is mental health from a Christian
