Therefore families must learn to tolerate, accept and hopefully celebrate children who are not what they originally had in mind ;as well as the communities should start playing their part by accepting and providing opportunities for every child. It's imperative to know how a child with the disability feels about his /her restricted life, because too often parents and the communities tend to see these individuals as helpless who required pity or sympathy. Most people are not aware that people with disability do not want to be labelled. Instead they want opportunities to be independent and to have access to transportation, jobs, and socialization. They also want to be known as an individual and to share experiences with others based on like interests. As a result this paper will highlights causes of disability, some attitudes and experiences of families, which include a child with a disability and suggests ways that communities can support these families. Having a physical or mental health condition or a health problem that restricts an individual ability to engage in daily activities can be very devastating at times. It is obvious that everyday individual is plagued by different type of disability namely; arthritis and other musculoskeletal problems, heart disease and stroke, cancer, mental health problems, diabetics, accidents, nervous systems disorder and pregnancy (Griffin, 2014). While many people are under the impression that most people with a disability was born that way, statistics tends to prove otherwise. It has been concluded that only 9 percent of people with disability were born that way. While 52 percent occurs during the course of life from either acute illness or accident, twenty-eight percent are due to long – term health problems cause by accidents or diseases and the remaining 11 percent are a result of temporary health issues and other causes (DeVault, Mar 1, 2008). Everyday individuals get injury at work or become a victim of freak accident.
