Every year, nearly 70 million women experience an unwanted pregnancy. However, the only person who can decide either to carry on with the pregnancy or seek an abortion is the pregnant woman herself (n.a., 2004). Some people agree that women should have the right in abortion because women have full control over their own body so that they can blend in the society. But many people disagree with that notion because abortion can violate the right to life of the baby (Remus, 2007), it can be classified as an act of cruelty (Mason, 2007), and it is strongly opposed by all religions around the world (n.a., n.d.). Based on Ann Furedi (2007), women should have the right to make their own decision in abortion. However, the article does not provide enough support. Many people disagree with that notion because abortion can disregard the right for the unborn baby to live (Remus, 2007). It is unjust to take away the life of an unborn baby because the baby also deserves a chance to live in this world. Moreover, the baby is also innocent and has not done anything wrong to be punished like that. The mother must be aware of that fact and just accept her own pregnancy. After that, women also have the right to generate her own self-esteem (n.a., 2004). Still, there wasn’t enough evidence provided. Abortion can be regarded as one of the acts of cruelty (Mason, 2007). Though a fetus in a womb is not a complete form of human, it is scientifically proven that they can feel pain as early as 20 weeks, thus killing it is just as cruel as killing a grown up human. When a woman decides to abort her baby, she has abandoned her humanity because she killed her own child without giving another thought to the baby itself.
