The Phantom of the Opera is an obsessive character with an interesting story which makes the whole love novel entertaining. The story of the Phantom is despairing. He was born with a disfigured face, and he never had a mother's love. He had been ashamed since a young age. He has trust issues because you can be betrayed only so many times. He’s obsessed with Christine Daaé but she sees him as a protector, a teacher, an angel and mostly as a father replacement. He wants her all to himself, he wants her to give herself to him. There’s many type of love, and this movie shows particularly two. Raoul’s love is a caring, passionate and selfless type of love. He’s protective to her as a lover, he cares more for her than himself. He wants her to be happy. Then, there’s the phantom type of love, which is a selfish, possessive, jealous love. He’s a control freak and a manipulator. He’s obsessed to the point of having a life size doll of Christine. He has his own way to love her. He loves her as much as someone like him can love someone. He has lost so much that he’s extremely protective over what he has. You should never be ashamed of who you are and what your appearance is, because we are born the way that we are. We all have issues and imperfections we wish we never had. The phantom has been his entire life humiliated because of his visage. When Christine removed his mask, she was not repulsed. Her feelings toward the ghost never changed. She was still devoted to him; it was for her a step of acceptance even though the phantom felt betrayed.
