Christopher Columbus, Michelangelo Buonarroti, and Queen Elizabeth I each lived in the same time period. This time period was both in the Middle Ages, and the time of the Renaissance. These humans are much different in what they are known for, but they all exhibit characteristics which were acquired by living in this unique time period. These characteristics are what molded them into who they are, allowed them to make large impacts on the world and display big contributions to history. Christopher Columbus discovered North America. As a man of Renaissance, Columbus was very courageous and he was a hard, devoted worker. When Columbus was opened up to the crazy idea that the world might be a sphere, he was curious and wanted to see for himself what the world really was. Columbus was sailing to Asia on a trading route but instead of traveling South and East around Africa like all other sailors had done, Columbus traveled West (Minster, 2015). From this, Columbus became an explorer and discovered a whole new continent which was filled with untouched minerals, and Natives which he sent back to his country as slaves in trade (Minster, 2015). This quest was very Renaissance because Columbus used a new way of travelling the world and “thinking outside of the box.” Christopher Columbus was a very religious man, as he attended mass every Sunday and had a wish to bring Christianity to the “New World” which he founded (Minster, 2015). In Columbus’ late years, he wore a robe around the monastery, making him look as though he was a monk (Minster, 2015). Clearly the Roman Catholic Church had a big impact on Columbus’ life, as it had the same impact on the lives of most men and women during the Middle Ages. Michelangelo Buonarroti was an inspiring artist. He was an amazing artist of sculpting, and was a magnificent painter. Michelangelo had a love for the male body, and therefore a lot of his artwork contained male nudity (Grimm, 2015). T
