My family places high value on education and intelligence due to the fact that they believe it will lead to a better life.Though this idea is true there are other reasons to value education. I value education because it can help combat hypocrisy and ignorance. We have increasingly become a society centered around rapid expressions of opinions, this leads to bigotry and uninformed opinions. tIt is imperative that we place emphasis on education so we can reject ignorance and become capable of formulating educated opinions. but we need it to further society’s morality. Though our society places high emphasis on education, it fails to educate students on pressing issues. A pressing issue in our society is America’s current occupation in Afghanistan. The war in Afghanistan affected many American lives in unimaginable ways. However, only 17% of students could place Afghanistan on a map, an even smaller proportion of students could explain why we were in Afghanistan. This shows that even though we have brave men and women fighting for the freedom o f others over seas our education system has failed to educate the populace on what the current issues are. Another failure, is the Michael Brown case. The official case of Michael Brown was released, however many Americans only know the verdict not caring to look into the case and the process to the acquittal of the officer. It is our duty to teach and try to educate everyone on this case so they don’t make big uneducated assumptions about this case. All of these examples show that students, religions, and society are very uneducated and receives little to no pedagogy Education can combat hypocrisy and bigotry. Harvard has recently designed a curriculum that prepares young students to become future leaders, this curriculum places high emphasis on awareness of world issues and tolerance of all, students have excelled under this curriculum.
