Australia gives a lot of aid to Papua New Guinea for diplomatic purposes since it is a very closed neighbor, which is vital to their national security. Australia provides around $330-400 million annually on Overseas Development Aid (ODA) to PNG. There are many problems associated with Papua New Guinea low level of development concern from the Australian National Government is there access to health care, funds and income along with security. AusAID has increased by 93.4% from years 2009-2014, and is continuing to get higher and higher every year. This is where Australia among other aid organizations come in i.e. Caritas, Oxfam, TEAR and UNICEF to help provide PNG become a more stable nation and to reduce poverty. Australia spends most of their aid on giving PNG access to education, health resources and transport and infrastructure, although Australia focus’ more on spending their money on assisting Governance. Australia's aid program to PNG comprises about one fifth of the total aid budget. Australia's aid program is working step by step with PNG to reduce poverty and attain sustainable development. AusAID assists many Pacific island countries including Fiji, Kiribati, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu. These countries are small and isolated - even from each other - and are far away from major markets for the goods and services they need to buy and sell. In this century, climate change will trigger a never before seen flood of immigrants from countries with islands barely above sea level i.e. PNG. This will strain the relations between the two countries, so if they start off on a good foot when the climate catastrophe truly starts, Australia will be better off and immigrants will have good impressions of Australia. Hopefully, this will lead to an easier integration into Australian society. Poor nations are not known for their political stability.
