During the Civil Rights movement, there were many different organizations that wanted to change America for the better. Most groups took the path of protesting peacefully. However, The Black Panther Party was the group that was aiming to change the normal protest game-plans. The Black Panther Party, or BPP, was a group that stood for the greater good of America. They helped immensely with the Civil Rights Movement that was going on in America at this time. Finally, they had their own views, apart from other protesting groups, some the same and some different. The Black Panther Party may sound like an unimportant political group, but it was just the opposite. BPP was actually one of the more aggressive groups of this time, and of course had nothing to do with America’s politics. What they did have a say in, and a very large one at that matter, was the position of the black redemption during the 1960s in the United States. This new breed of revolution was led by man by the name of Huey P. Newton. After the murder of Malcom X, Huey and some of his lifelong friends including Bobby Seale and David Hilliard founded the Black Panther Party (Legacy). These three constructed the backbone for the Black Panther Party to become a reality. On April 25th, 1967, The Black Panther Party went into full effect. Just a month after the birth of the BPP, they had their first large group march in the capitol of California. The members that were involved in this revolutionary march were fully armed, for the protester’s “self-defense” (Baggins). About halfway through the march, the police arrived and confiscated all thirty of the armed protesters. This act of revolt sparked the beginning of the workers of minority to strike back against their unfair jobs (Baggins).
