Have you ever been told that you acted exactly like your mother or father? You may think that you get specific qualities from them, but did you get those traits from the genetics they passed onto you, or were they learned from the time spent with your parents? Maybe you have wondered how you and a sibling do not seem to have anything in common? This is a classic question that psychologists have been studying for as long as any other aspect of Psychology; is your personality more nature or nurture? Do genetics contribute to the person you have become, or did your surroundings contribute to your personality? This nature and nurture topic is interesting, because each and every person’s personalities determine so much in their lives. Personalities influence career choice, socioeconomic status, hobbies, and so much more. Evidence to explain these questions are found in studies of twins that were separated at birth, the neurological differences between introverts and extroverts, and of children who were adopted. It is apparent that personality is shaped by a mix of both nature and nurture. Nurture and nature play a great role in the personalities, and lives most people live today. Nurture refers to environmental influences after birth; all of the experiences we go through. From the love you receive from family, to the possible hate from people around you. The environment you grow up in. These simple day to day influences, contribute to what each person may become later in life, as well their behavior and actions within society.  Nature, on the other hand, refers to genetics from which you receive at conception. All of the biologically factors are developed within the womb. Things such as hair, eye and skin color, and so on. What you are born with may influence a lot about you in the future.
