A fairy tale is usually known as a children's story about magical creatures but, over time, fairy tales have been considered to be false stories meant to trick people. These are fictional stories that involve magic and imaginary creatures, beings and lands. As for the setting, it is not detailed throughout the whole story. This is why the author uses phrases like "once upon a time", "a long, long time ago" and "happily ever after". The characters are one-dimensional figures; the audience can only see this type of character from one view, the hero stays hero and the villain stays villain. One of the most important elements of a fairy tale is that the problem is always to be solved. However, the original tales, Grimm’s fairy tales, are vastly different from the ones we know today. What the Grimm’s fairytales all have in common is that the style is casual, simple, and direct to the reader, without additions or fancies. As we read the real version of some of the fairy tales, that Disney has taken the job to caricature, we find many things in common. Those similar aspects are important keys at the moment of distinguish which is the real version of a fairy tale. The first thing is that not everything is rosy, and not everything ends like we want it. No all the time the princess ends up living happily ever after with her prince charming. Specifically the Grimm brothers’ versions of fairy tales have these somehow bloody and dark sides. As we analyze their stories, specifically, The Little Mermaid, Cinderella and Little Red Cap, we notice some similarities that make them as we call it some classic fairy tales. First, in all of them the main character is a beautiful girl that has a unique talent or way of being that makes her loved by everyone. Secondly, we notice that in all of these three stories, family makes a great roll in the plot of the story. In all of them the beautiful girls suffer physical and mental pain before getting to that point of “happiness”; very ironic because it is exactly how it actually happens in real life. Thirdly, the stories have a moral, for which is directed to encourage others to do good, like in Cinderella that teaches us that we should treat others like we will like to be treated. Final but the most important aspect of these fairy tales is that they are not a pink stories and that they have these dark and bloody sides.
