"The Great Gatsby,” by F. Scott Fitzgerald, is historically significant for its prohibition references, the rigging of the 1919 World Series, and the migration of immigrants too Ellis Island in New York. There are many other allusions in this novel but the historical ones is what Fitzgerald aims at. Nick Caraway, Jay Gatsby, and Tom Buchanan are major characters that discuss these factual events. It is good too know these events because in life they repeat themselves and some of them are so fascinating and interesting. The world ways back when got too love it. Hope and the pursuit of prosperity and dreams that never come to fruition are represented by green in The Great Gatsby. Those men came to find prosperity, and just when they did, the American Revolution came and many were chased from their homes because of their loyalty to England, chased away as Tories, their dreams never truly coming to fruition. Nick Caraway, "The fresh green of the new world, the things that inspire Dutch sailors to come to America to pursue prosperity.” World War One was just ending at this time and also before this time many immigrants came too the East Coast too settle in towns and on farms where they go away from the turmoil in there country. The United States of America was the land of free and brave, whom would not want too come. Baseball was the United States most popular sport at the time and still is in modern day times. The World Series of 1919 was said too be rigged by a gambler and he was never caught. Jay Gatsby says this too Nick but Nick finds it hard too believe this man was not caught and thrown in jail. Gatsby said there are some super smart people in this world and he was an extremely intelligent man. “He becomes very sentimental sometimes,” explained Gatsby. “This is one of his sentimental days.
