The world we live in has been deeply affected by the presence of social, print and electronic media. The society as a whole has been dominated by the media. The trends show that it’s not a powerful government or huge army which can change the course of the nation, media plays a pivotal role to build a consensus of opinion among nation. Some of the experts are of the view that a media without any regulation is a mafia which can become so powerful at times that it can single-handedly topple the governments and bring a revolution. The maturity and regulation for the media is necessary to stop this genie to come out of the bottle and the developed countries have been able to accomplish it. A concept of free media is new to the people of the third world countries. This is where the problem starts. It has become a menace in these developing countries and the rulers of these countries have failed to control the media power. It does not only effect the nation as a whole but the individuals as well. Regardless of age, size, class and creed almost everybody is affected by the power of media specially the electronic media. News bulletins, talk shows, television soaps, commercials and sports have different type of impact on various people. The people who belong to the old age group love to watch news bulletins and any programs relating religion as they love to discuss politics and their faith with their mates. Middle aged men prefer to watch sports and business channels because usually they play different sports and various programs on the business will help them to be up-to-date about what business is more profitable and what is not. Young men love to watch movies and programs based on fashion as they love to have an insight on the latest trends in fashion so they can follow them and movies appeal them. When someone is young you love to watch a movie sitting on your couch with your girlfriend. Ladies love to watch tv soaps which have daily episodes and the young ones are fond of cartoons and fictional movies. It plays a pivotal role in the development and the upbringing of the children because the 21st century children are born with an iPhone in their one hand, laptop in their other and a television remote in their lap. At a very young age they become so affiliated and acquainted with the televisions, laptops and the smart phones that they have become their first priority over everything in the world, even the families have become secondary. The generation before this 21st century generation is greatly used to play hide and seek, used to play cricket, soccer. They used to bond with each other, have a family dinner together and were socially active. Now the things have changed. Soccer, cricket and hockey is played on the video games instead of playing grounds. The family dinners have become obsolete. Instead of having breakfast, lunch and dinner on the dinner table as one family the children prefer to have their food while watching their favourite tv programs in the television lounge and the parents love to be on their beds, eat food and stare at their lcds and leds. Different types of television content have different and dramatic effects on personality and behavioral development in young adolescence.
