My desire to study Advertising and Marketing Communications began in an elegant townhouse; the sleek, modern home that my mother cleans for a living. It was the home of fashion stylist, Ludivine Poiblanc, and her husband, Art Director, Fabien Baron. Although this was five years ago, I remember it like it was just yesterday. I had gone to the Baron’s house for the first time because it was summer vacation, and I wanted to help my mom at work. Little did I know how important this day was going to be for me. The neighborhood where the house was located in New York City, gave me a feeling of excitement; I felt like I was in Paris. Fascinated by the architecture of their building, I felt a huge sense of eager anticipation. Mme. Poiblanc greeted me with a huge hug, and made me feel comfortable. Only thirteen years old, I was dazzled by the tall, slim, exotic models standing before my eyes, dressed in elegant finery. I wanted to learn more: where did those fantastic fabrics and creative designs originate? Where would those elaborate ensembles find themselves once the models disrobed? All I could see, as my mom told me to dust a part of the living room, were models taller than skyscrapers, wearing clothes I had only seen on the televised news clips of Fashion Week. From that day on, fashion ignited a flame in my heart. By the time I entered high school, I was determined to enter the fashion industry one day, and study in Paris. I began to chart my course. I chose to study French in order to begin, in a small way, to realize this dream. How I loved this class! We not only learned French grammar and verb conjugations; we would watch plenty of movies about fashion, including, Coco Before Chanel. I read everything I could get my hands on. I poured over such iconic magazines as Vogue, Teen Vogue, Nylon, and Life. Although I had been reading fashion magazines since middle school, now I began studying fashion trends and forecasts.
