Presidential assassinations are uncommon in the United States, but the groups that perform, or attempt to perform, these murders are reusing old ideas. Anarchism has been around for centuries, even back to the ancient times, and opposes any form of government or authority. This community truly believes that authority figures only want to take from the citizens, and therefore the job of an anarchist is to stop such action by all means necessary. Anarchist groups, or revolutionist groups, are widely known throughout all countries and states for their strong will and determination to put a stop to workings of the government. President William McKinley was assassinated because one anarchist thought he could change America in a way best for all people. It is imperative to first grasp how Americans felt in reference to McKinley’s position in office. Born on January 29, 1843, McKinley started his walk to presidency. Unfortunately, on September 6, 1901, McKinley was shaking hands and meeting citizens when he was shot once in the abdomen and once in the chest with a .32-caliber Iver-Johnson revolver and abruptly ends his presidency. It soon becomes profoundly clear as to why the people of America loved him, for as he is coming closer and closer to the ground and guards swarm his attacker, Leon Czolgosz, all McKinley managed to say was, “Don’t hurt him. Just don’t hurt him” (President William Mckinley is Assassinated, 1901). The president was quickly rushed to the emergency room only to have his doctor unable to retrieve the bullets that resided inside McKinley’s body. Shortly after the operation, McKinley lived for eight days before the gangrene and infection overwhelmed him as a result of improper medical procedures performed by the doctor.
