The John Adams and George Washington administrations were two of the first administrations of America. Both presidents made choices with America's best interest in mind. These decisions had both pros and cons in them. For instance, John Adam faced a major international crisis which made him make controversial decisions for the people of the united states. Furthermore, George Washington managed to keep 13 quarreling States together for 8 difficult years. Both had a big impact in history. John Adams was a federalist, he believed in strong central government. His vice President Thomas Jefferson was a Democratic-Republican. This caused many disputes over decisions in the cabinet. The administration became divided between Conservatives and Moderates, because of this Jefferson assigned from the cabinet and Panckey became vice president. This was one con because the cabinet was divided for sometime. While John Adams was in office he fought an international crisis. He Tried everything to try and not go into full blown war, but it seemed as thats all the french wanted to do. He tried sending three missionaries to france to settle the dispute over the french seizing more than three hundred ships by 1798. But instead of making peace the french asked for five million dollars in return to peace. This was seen as a blow to american honor. This was called The XYZ affair. John Adams stated “millions for defense, but not one cent for tribute.” This strengthened their political position which is a pro. The people liked that Adam was trying everything to not go into war but the downfall was after The XYZ affair the war was inevitable. The congress started raising new taxes to support the war and they enlarged their navy and army. There was an increase in central government which some of the people didn't agree with. Because of this the 11th amendment was produced to limit power of the federalist courts. The federalist court still had a lot of power.
