Gay marriage may be allowed in fourteen states, but that’s 36 states that it’s still illegal. Why’s it illegal in the first place? Is it because the bible says so? Isn’t there supposed to be a separation of church and state? People voting don’t realize that when they get the power to vote they cannot let their beliefs influence what the world is doing as a whole. Gay marriage shouldn’t be such a surprise anymore. People have been gay for a long time now, why stop their love from being a legit commitment? It’s a right they have as an American to choose who they love. No one should be restricted from marrying the person that they love. We are one nation, everyone should be equal regardless who they love. It’s 2013, and the fact that some boys like boys and some girls like girls is an outrage, is just saddening and quite stupid. As of July 17th, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington have legalized gay marriage in their states, as well as the District of Columbia. Change is happening for the better in this country, and there is no stopping it. It’s a good thing honestly. Since Massachusetts legalized gay marriage, their divorce rates declined 21% from 2003 to 2008, leaving them with the lowest divorce rate in the country. It couldn’t be that couples are solving their problems either, its because the couples that deserve and love each other finally are able to be legally committed to one another. (ProConorg) There are three definitions in the dictionary for “marriage.” The one that should matter the most in this generation is that a marriage is an intimate or close union.
