The food product we followed for this assignment is milk from MOOville Creamery. The history of this company is that it is family owned and operated and has been operating since 2006. The family name that created this company is Wesendorp. Mooville is not a subsidiary as it is brought up and operated by family. This firm has a geographic market is local; they sell to retailers across the state of Michigan. The headquarters and manufacturers of MOOville is in Nashville, Michigan on the family farm. This company is not very “big” but they have 23 different products they sell to the public. The number of employees just includes the immediate family, four sons and the mother and father, but the number of retailers they sell their product to is 65 stores across the state of Michigan. This number is incredible being that only six people are working on the farm. For our commodity, milk is a widely used product across the country. Number three in the country for producing milk is New York by beating Idaho by 57 million pounds of milk. The next would be the state of Wisconsin, who produced 22,000 million pounds of milk. This might be because of the great amount of cheese in Wisconsin. In first place is California with 36,000 million pounds; with all the cow farms in the state it was no wonder being number one in the country. At the Farm Service stage, the farmers buy equipment from DeLaval to help milk their cows and provide accurate udder health monitoring such as if the cow has mastitis, can also tell the percent of the milk fat, and the semantic cell count. This adds value to the milk in that it saves the farmer time to find the sickly cow to increase profitability. At the producer stage, the farmers milk the cow. This adds value in that the farmers now have a product to sell and it’s changing from being inside of a cow to into a cooling unit.
