In 2014, President Obama, with his intentions to raise the minimum wage called upon congress, soon after the President signed an Executive order to raise the minimum wage. Many in agreement with the President applauded because an increase in minimum wage is well deserved by the American people. However, in fear that raising the minimum wage will only hurt the economy the Republicans continue to repudiate the Presidents proposal. The American people need to support raising the minimum wage because evidence has proven that raising the minimum wage will not lead to job loss but instead for many Americans it means the difference between living in poverty and not. According to Dave Oliver in his article “The evidence is clear, raising the minimum wage does not cost jobs,” he says “modest minimum wage adjustments lead to small, or zero, effect on employment.”(Oliver, 2014). The American people know that raising the minimum wage will help make work pay and it will ensure that minimum wage workers will get a fair deal for their efforts. Throughout history the minimum wage has been a continuous debate because there are so many opinions from such a wide population. Most people in America have at some point in their lives worked for a minimum wage, they know how important the minimum wage is, and they know it will affect their kids in the future. The topic is tremendously important and is the reason why it is being discussed in every kitchen, every living room, and restaurant all over America. One of the biggest debates within the minimum wage topic is the raise in minimum wage and how it will affect employment. The debate amongst economists has continued to go back and forth about whether raising the minimum wage will increase or decrease employment. The majority of the 20th century economists believe that raising the minimum wage could increase employment in certain situations or it could lead to a decrease in employment due to businesses eliminating weaknesses within their workfo
