Diversity can be defined as the state of having people who have different races or who have different cultures in a group or organization. A diverse organization is one that values the difference in people and recognizes their different backgrounds, skills, experiences and perceptions, encourages and harnesses these differences to make their services relevant and approachable. The encouragement of diversity in today’s society is relevant because it gives people the chance to experience different things outside of what is normal or regular for the majority. Managing diversity involves more than hiring women or minorities and treating them well and equally. It also means understanding how that knowledge and experience will bring gain to the organization. Diversity as a wide component is a tricky thing to use and understand because it has both negative and positive effects on society such as education, violence and employment. People have to dig deep to figure out what exactly the effect will be in the end and be patient to wait and see. The United States of America, historically since their first steps as a free country, always has had a minority that has been mistreated (no matter race or skin color) and it is still happening in lesser degree with some minorities. Minorities often are point of discrimination due the fear to the unknown. Massive perception could include incorrect assumptions about certain groups, bringing fear and causing isolation for the people and reducing their chance to grow and live in a better environment. As an extension of this issue, some abuse may exist from employers or even regular citizens with a possible escalation to certain forms of unpunished sexual harassment by asking or forcing an employee to perform sexual favors to avoid negative consequences or creating a hostile work environment by bullying, violating normal working conditions, making fun of them, telling jokes or even displaying pornography
