Technology and Why We Love It

According to an online dictionary, the word "technology" means “Machinery and equipment developed from such scientific knowledge.” However, for me it’s different as I perceive the term technology to be anything that makes life easier than it would normally be the circumstances. To further explain my belief, let’s take an example of technology, like the mobile phone. The first mobile phone was invented in 1946 by The Bell’s System and from that day to the current times the technology has evolved to such vast extents that almost every person from the age thirteen owns a mobile device. Just a tap of a finger can now connect you with your loved ones millions of miles away. Technology has carved our lives in such a way that everything we do is influenced or aided by it. For me as an individual, technology is most useful for conserving precious time, as humans have a short lifespan and every second counts! In the old days when a student would have to do a research task, the individual would have to spend countless hours browsing through books and other fragments of information in order to access the suitable evidence needed for the set task. If we compare this to a modern teenager, he would quickly type the required information in Google and will able to access thousands of web pages showing him all he needs for his work. As a student of fast moving modern times I cherish the opportunities provided by the internet. Visualize a person living in the eighteenth century. The number of domestic chores they had to do was astounding and the amount of effort put in comparison to us is of an elephant and an ant as they had none of the facilities provided to us. It’s intriguing to consider how much the people had to do for such simple tasks. Nowadays for a domestic task like washing clothes, we have at least one washing machine installed in a household that would save us the time and energy to complete such a tedious task.
