Our constitution is based off of the United States where you have your own rights and you feel free. When making rules and regulations it wasn’t easy, they had to go through a lot until the Constitution came about. The U.S Constitution guarantees basic rights for citizens and it was signed on September 17, 1787 in Philadelphia over George Washington. The first document “Articles of Confederation” was weak and the states were like independent countries. They wanted a strong federal government with three branches, - executive, legislative, and judicial branch along with checks and balances so that one branch wouldn’t have more power than the other branches. Bill of Rights 1-10 became a part of the constitution in 1791 guaranteeing individual right protection, freedom of speech, and religion. When the Articles of Confederation were ratified in 1781, the states were operating as independent countries. When the U.S won its independence from England, Americans felt strong about their states and wanted to have them powerful. Most people didn’t want to have a strong government because they felt that they would have little or no control. They wanted to have each state a separate independence instead of having friendship between all of them. The Articles of Confederation gave congress the power to conduct war, and be involved with foreign affairs and regulate currency. The powers were limited because congress couldn’t enforce things to the states for money and troops. In 1786, Alexander Hamilton called for a constitutional convention inviting all 13 states to Philly, because they consider that the republic needed a strong central government. On May 25, 1787 the Constitutional Convention was held at the Independence hall where George Washington was appointed president.
