What makes someone a great leader? One may have a set of qualities in mind such as strength, character, and faith as characteristics that a great leader should have and another individual may disagree and say that the qualities of a great leader are wisdom, honesty, and integrity. Well as the debate of qualities of a great leader may never end the qualities in question are still great qualities for an individual to have. There have been many great leaders in the past with many great qualities however the one great leader of all time that forever will be remembered and recognized for his courage, faith, and knowledge many would agree is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. First and for most, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s courage at that point in time in which being a black man in America with a voice was a recipe to getting lynched was un-heard of. Dr. King’s courage inspired many to follow him in the civil rights movement. While black men and women were brutally beaten, assaulted with dogs and water hoses it was through his inspirational speeches and courage’s stands that gave the black community hope for a better life. Dr. King was a man like any other man he also was afraid, he also was doubtful, but at the end of the day he was resilient and he stood for what he believed in that all men are created equal. He too was a victim of threatening calls; his family was constantly being harassed, the KKK would try to intimidate him as well but it was through his courage that he stood tall and never faltered. Therefor having courage not to give in to what society wants one to be due to one’s race, sex, or beliefs is an important trait to have when being recognized as a leader. Secondly, Dr. King was able to withstand many of the wrong doings that were done to him through his faith in God.
