Abnormal Behavior According to www.cliffsnotes.com, ‘Abnormal Behavior’ is described or being defined as “behavior that is disturbing (socially unacceptable), distressing, maladaptive (or self-defeating), and often the result of distorted thoughts (cognitions)”. It is basically behavior, which is not normal. This assignment therefore aims at defining what exactly abnormal behavior is, how it is caused and what preventative measure/s that can be taken to prevent such behaviors. Based on further research abnormal psychology is that branch of psychology that is involved, when dealing with psychopathology and abnormal behavior in general. This term simply covers a wide range of disorders, ranging from depression to obsession; compulsion to sexual deviation (these are also known as psychological disorders). Specifically this type of psychology studies the universal patterns of behaviors, emotions and thoughts. There have also been different approaches involved in classifying these mental disorders. There are basically three (3) different categories of abnormal which includes; subnormal, supernormal and paranormal. Besides these, there have also been several theories that attempt to justify the main causes of abnormal behaviors; namely, the medical perspective, the psychodynamic perspective, the behavioral perspective, the cognitive perspective and the social-cultural perspective. Attention Deceit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Based on the website www.medicalnewstoday, ADHD “is the most common behavioral disorder that starts during childhood.” The WebMD website continues to explain that it not only affects children, but also adolescents and unfortunately continue until adulthood for some; and is sometimes referred to as ADD in adults. According to scientists, it is a “common neurobiological disorder” whose symptoms can be identified and become noticed as early as preschool grades for most children. It so happens to fall under the category of ‘abnormal behavior.’ Children with ADHD generally have problems focusing and paying attention/concentrating. They also tend to be more constantly impulsive and hyperactive all the time, moving about, not stopping to think
