I agree wholeheartedly. This country needs to realize politics are not as important as making sure the upcoming generations can think for themselves. Without a well-funded educational system, the future generations will be unable to think critically. Also, the students would not be able to make worthwhile contributions in math and science to the rest of the world. The wealth would also be distributed more evenly among the citizens by creating a more competitive job market. Critical thinking is not just a credence some people have. Schools should focus more on developing these skills at an early age so they develop even more as a student progresses through school. A student with critical thinking skills can make better decisions than one without. So many students now do not have these necessary skills; unfortunately, this decreases their chances of being extremely successful. They might not be able to reach their dreams either. Critical thinking is the most critical factor in education, but it is not the main focus of the adults in politics. They are not looking at what the country will be like if we have students who cannot think critically; they are more focused on the now. A student with this skill would be able to develop a complete thought on solutions to other problems (Ossola). Critical thinking is the main focus but there are other parts of the educational system, which should be focused on. STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
