Cigarette smoking is linked to numerous negative effects that not only affects the health of smokers, but also detriments the heath of people around them. Due to a lot of negative impacts associated with smoking such as different incurable diseases including numerous lung diseases, cancers and many more, not to mention the critical role cigarette smoke plays in pollution of the environment, there is no reason why tobacco smoking stay legal. What astonishes me is how a lot of people prefer to smoke, even though they know that cigarettes are dangerous. The legality of production and sale of cigarettes often makes me wonder if different governments around the world are aware about the catastrophes that cigarettes smoking causes. Smoking is among the top causes of death in America. According to the journal of national cancer institute, smoking kills four hundred and thirty four thousands Americans each year comparable to one thousand and two hundreds people per day which is equivalent to fifty people per hour. This is not good, but there is still a solution. Researchers report that exposure to secondhand smoke causes approximately 3,400 lung deaths among nonsmokers in the United States every year(“Smoking and Health.”). Environmental smoke also causes an estimated 46,000 premature deaths from heart disease each year in the United States among nonsmokers (“ Tobacco Smoke and Involuntary Smoking.”). Furthermore, environmental tobacco smoke is also often considered responsible for SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome), and for causing serious health problems in children, which will affect their development and future life prospects (“ Tobacco Smoke and Involuntary Smoking.”).
