“Your total comes to $2.75 sir,” said the cashier. Neal scrambles some change and hands it to the young lady. He took his seat at his regular table with a small black coffee in front of him. He glazed out the window and appreciated the warm summer morning. He sat and watched rushed workers ordering coffee before a day at work. But one particular lady caught his attention. She was in a pair of skinny jeans and a mint blazer, with her brown hair blowing as she entered the café. "May I have a tall vanilla macchiato with whipped cream please?” said the young lady. She then took her seat across the café. Neal pulls some coins from his left pocket and begins counting. He could make up $48.20 for the rest of his week but without second-guessing he takes out a loonie to buy the beautiful lady a French croissant and leaves the café. The following day, Neal wears his only dress shirt and buys her a raspberry-swirl sweet roll but waits to see her reaction. “Hi there, it was really sweet of you to buy me breakfast, my name is Mila”. She had a smile like sunshine on a cloudy day. Neal and Mila sat and chatted for hours in the café until Mila had an appointment at noon. She walked out and waved goodbye at Neal. He looked down and noticed a number written on the napkin. He grabbed the napkin and headed out with a warmed heart. He sat in his rented basement and planned his next date with Mila. He was going to treat her to a romantic Italian dinner down the street but did not have the money or an outfit. Having fallen in love with Mila, he was desperate to impress her and asked his tenant to borrow a suit and some money. Wednesday morning he sat at the café and waited for Mila to show up. Just like every other day, she walked through the door at 7:15am and took Neal’s breath away. This time Mila was in a black blouse and a pencil skirt and came straight to Neal’s table.
