The ever-growing popularity and desire for smartphones is increasing by the minute. Trends that grow at such a rapid pace often drive teenage desire to purchase these types of products. Unfortunately, many parents do not see the need for smartphones. However, parents of teenagers should consider purchasing their teens smartphones for the following reasons: help keep teenagers safe in emergencies, help keep teenagers connected with family and friends, and help make education more accessible to teenagers by downloading school related applications. Parents of teenagers should consider purchasing their children a smartphones because it can help keep them safe in case of emergency situations. Most common emergencies happen in times when a person can use a phone to call for help, but sometimes the person in need of help is unable to dial a phone number. In these specific circumstances, it is a good idea to add the acronym I.C.E. (In Case of Emergency) in front of contacts in the smartphone in order for someone else to call for help. For example, if someone is unconscious and a person happens to come upon them, an easy call can be made to emergency services and identified family and friends. This can be very helpful to the parents or I.C.E. contacts to know if they need to meet the child at the hospital, or if they need to assist in the care of the child in the emergency situation. Many times smartphones are extremely helpful in dire situations because of the capability to set speed-dial numbers and at just the press of a single button, call a towing agency, the police, or an ambulance. On some highways, there are emergency phones, but today these phones are becoming increasingly scarce. In these situations, without a roadside phone, it is best to have a smartphone to call for assistance. In some cases, emergency services have been able to pin point the location of the caller of a smartphone even when the user does not know where they are.
