Malcolm Little was born in the town of Omaha, Nebraska, to Earl and Louise Little. Malcolm was brought into a world of hatred toward African Americans, which is how he would live the rest of his life. His father Earl, and black Baptist preacher from Georgia was a worker for the Universal Negro Improvement Association. Being that he was working for this organization the racism in Omaha caused the family to pack up and move to Lansing, Michigan. When the family arrived to Lansing in 1929 they were still under the same duress that they had faced in Omaha. The families home ended up being burned to the ground by white supremacist. Watching the house burn that night made young Malcolm realize that being black in America was harsh. Malcolm would suffer another blow when his father was killed and the life insurance policy left for the family would not be fulfilled because of false accusations about the death. Malcolms family eventually ends up being split up and he is forced into a foster home.  In 1937 a white family takes young Malcolm in as their own but he realizes that the situation isn’t good between them and him-self. While attending Mason Junior High Malcolm is firs in his class but he does not feel that he belongs in that setting. Racist comments are made and even his teacher tell him that he should pursue a carpenter job after Malcolm says he has aspirations of being a lawyer in the future. In the summer of 1940 Malcolm goes to visit his sister Ella in Boston. This trip would change his life for the better. He eventually ends up moving to Boston around the age of 15 in hopes of bettering his chances at becoming a lawyer. When Malcolm arrives in Boston he begins to look for a job to help support him and his sister.  Malcolm had to adjust to the lifestyle and he did quickly when he met a man named Shorty that worked at a pool hall. Shorty begins to look out for him and even helps get a job at the Roseland State Ballroom. He ends up replacing a shoe-shiner and starts learning the basics of the job. The job consists of passing out towels, cleaning bathrooms, selling condoms, and shining shoes. Malcolm eventually figures out that most of his income his based off of drug money, playing cards, and selling boos. After getting his bread up and becoming a popular face he quits his job and starts attending the Ballroom as a regular. A PYT named Laura catches his eye and they begin dancing night in and night out along with seeing each other regularly. While dancing in the Ballroom with Laura, Sophia a white lady grabs his attention and he eventually lets Laura go to be with Sophia.  Malcolm finds work washing dishes on a train line from Boston to Washington and selling sandwiches from Boston to New York. When he gets fired for selling the sandwiches the aggressive way he ends up work
