Every time you press the power button on your remote, you’re bringing in a world of violence, corruption, lies, and illusion into your home. As Frank Lloyd Wright quoted “T.V is chewing gum for the eyes”. It’s addicting and makes your eyes crave for that excitement and happiness that television provides. Mass Media, Television, has negative influences towards society. Television influences society negatively because it harms the development of the minds of children, promotes violence, and alters people's personality traits. Television can also be very beneficial, providing entertainment, Information, news updates, and educational programming. Television harms the development of the minds of children. Statistics show that 3 to 5 year old watch an average of 2 or more hours of un-education programs per day. Which has a poor influence on their brain, and later result in chances of not doing well academically. This also shows that the younger you are exposed to television, the more negativity you have towards the world. It is said that an average 18 year old American has observed about 200,000 acts of violence and 16,000 murders on TV. It’s astonishing how a person is able to absorb that much negativity, when in real life those are the thing we try to avoid. The viewing of violence only leads to negative outcomes later in life, which proves why parents shouldn't expose TV to their children at such a young age. Television promotes violence. It allows mass media to portray that it’s “socially acceptable” to commit crimes and perform acts of violence. A survey from TV Guide states that out of 208 prisoners 9-10 admitted that they learned their tricks by watching crime shows, and 4-10 admitted that they attempted crimes shown on TV.
