Living in this world, I am sure each one of us have asked ourselves these kind of questions at some point, such as: What are we? Why are we here? Is there any meaning behind each of our lives? Is reality real? What if? Plato who is a Greek philosopher, was expressing his idea of the real world with the concept of “The forms” that he explained in “The Allegory of the Cave," in which “the forms” here is a true reality. The reality that we all live in is just the material world, Plato believes that people were in the cave have not seen the real world yet and as a philosopher he has the courage and responsibility to let people know there is so much outside that they all have not figured out yet. And after stating the understanding of Forms, he believes it will lead to true knowledge, an education. Staying in the dark cave and dwelling, humans is thus shown to be in a state lacking in enlightenment and as imprisoned. And when they realize about there condition, they ignored it. But Plato understands their situation and offered to help them escape from their own darkness, turn them away and help them understand the truth of their own situation. Human normally would just endure the life they already had, because they think that is everything they could have and there is no other thing than that. But Plato believes that we all are lack of knowledge and he showed a picture of them who are blind, not because of their eyes but their soul and the thing that could open their eyes are education, knowledge and understanding. So what is the love of wisdom? The word “love of wisdom” was derived from a Greek word “philosophia”, in which Sophia means wisdom and Philo means love. On the other hand, love of wisdom is philosophy. It means that the person who has a love for wisdom is a person who has a need for knowledge, belief, and meditation, which is a person with curiosity and lust to know things.
