Welcome to Shorter University or as we fellow hawks prefer to refer to it as the hill! The first matter of business is to issue out an enormous congratulation on completing high school, graduating, and deciding to further an educational career as a Shorter University Hawk. Shorter University’s (located in Rome, Ga) motto is to offer each and every student here on the hill an exceptional collegiate education while transforming lives through Christ. Indeed this motto is met by not only presenting scheduled chapels here on campus every Wednesday with various guest speakers and local ministers as well as preachers, but inside classrooms praying before lecture or briefly sharing bible verses one would definitely build a relationship with Christ. As a college student one is forever seeking a break or a legitimate excuse to break away from study and class time. Thankfully, here at Shorter numerous organizations and intramural sport teams have been formed for students to occupy their “free time” with something safe and productive. Not only do these organizations provide production for these adventurous college students, but amazingly relationships and long-term friendship bonds are created while they are involved. Mainly, the focus is to make sure students are enjoying their college life by meeting new friends, becoming involved on campus, and begin to enjoy their home away from home. As a freshman newly out of high school, it may be difficult to figure out what activities or hobbies to pick up. The most productive efficient organization thus far at Shorter (in my opinion) is the Student Government Association or abbreviated as SGA. Student Government has an active presence on campus and is essentially known as the voice of Shorter. Essentially consider it as a piece of politics on a collegiate level and not as intense or strict. Those students who are involved in this organization are widely known around campus if not only by name then by face and majority of the time it is both. It is safe to say SGA has a voice in school governance and a tremendous impact on campus life. What is it meant when I mention that? If making changes and witnessing the impact students contributed to take place on campus here at Shorter is something a freshman is interested in then the Student Government Association is definitely the association a freshman belongs in. Other organizations here require students to attend two calling-all-leaders meetings, and basically these meetings teach students how to become prestigious leade
