While being behind the wheel in a vehicle, he or she should always be alert and aware of what they’re doing. A large amount of recent car accidents have been due to that fact that people are driving while intoxicated, or texting when they should be focusing on the road. In my opinion not one is more dangerous than the other because they both have consequences, are a distraction, and can be fatal. The first way texting and drinking while driving are similar is because they both have consequences. If someone choses to text and drive they automatically increase the chance of not killing only themselves but others as well. If caught texting and driving, the officer will issue a ticket or a fine. Also, the person will have points marked against their license. However, if someone is caught driving intoxicated, the officer will immediately arrest them. Once in custody the person will be issued a fine. They will also have to attend alcohol classes, and there license will be suspended or even revoked. These consequences can be easily avoided by choosing to make the right decisions, to not text or drink and drive. The second way texting and drinking while driving are closely related is because they both are a distraction from driving. While texting and driving the person is paying more attention to their phone than the road. The average text message takes a person's eyes off the road for an average of five seconds. During that time they are basically driving blind, which increases their chance of wrecking. Drinking and driving is a hazard to not only the driver, but also to anyone around them. Driving drunk is a distraction because they are mentally unstable. This causes the person to become unsafe because they cannot focus and slows their reaction time.
