Psychologist Career Analysis

Most people know what they are going to have as a career in when they are in middle school. Most also know what they are going to do when they graduate. Although the majority of people know what they want to do for the rest of their lives, there are the exceptions. Myself being an exception, I was unsure of what I wanted to do. I chose to go to (Insert School) in the fall, and I chose something to be: a Psychologist. A Psychologist is someone who studies psychology, which is best described as the study of the human mind and it's behaviors. The first reason I chose psychology as my major is that the topic interests me; I have always wanted to help people with mental disorders and I enjoy learning about how the mind works. People don't see mental disorders as a real disorder because it's in the mind, and I want people to know they are not alone and they are not being judged. I want them to know someone is there to help them. The last reason I am interested in psychology would have to be myself. I have dealt with other's disabilities for a while now, and I want to help the families that go through the same things I have gone through when helping others; it's tough dealing with someone with a mental disorder, especially when you love them. People with mental disorders can be very hard to work with. That being said, it doesn't bother me that I would have to be patient with someone. The nature of the work usually consists of collaborating with a health care team or working by yourself, which usually consists of conducting research. To become one, you usually need Ph.D. in psychology or a Doctor of Psychology and most states require licensure or certification in psychology (Occupational Outlook Handbook: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
