In Taiwan, it was very difficult to study in the university because there were not many choices for citizens. Some people said that everyone should have a chance to get a good education, so they encouraged the government to establish more universities in the past. However, creating too many universities was a mistake which resulted in problems for our education system and society. First of all, the creation of more universities for students is because most people believed that the only way that they could increase the standard of living was to reinforce the system of our education. It was an honor in my parent’s generation when someone could enter a university. For instance, my mother always told me how she regretted that she could not have an opportunity to complete her studies because there were not much schools that she could choice and the transportation did not develop entirely. Both limited options of schools and difficult public transportation were the most challenging reasons in that period. Although the government considered that it could be beneficial to our society, they did not realize this decision would create a huge impact on people in the future. Since entering university has become an easy thing for people, Taiwanese people express that the universities are very free, which resembles a heaven. For example, I remember that a student got a very low score on examination for college entrance. Normally, he should have taking an examination again next year, but he entered a low level university and he could not find a high paying job after he graduated. The government expected the enhancement of citizen’s living by constructing the universities. In fact, this policy also leads many universities to go bankrupt and causes majority teachers to have difficulty finding a new job in the school.
