High school is a place where we can observe different types of people. By observing their behaviors and analyzing ourselves, we can make choices about our own behaviors. In the novel The Perks of Being A Wallflower, Charlie is a special type of person; he can see and hear like other teenagers but he never shows much emotion. His low-esteem and poor social skills lead him living like a wallflower instead of the remarkable person he could become. The novel The Perks of Being A Wallflower, by Stephen Chbosky, discusses how Charlie’s personality changes during his freshman year as a result of everything that happened to him and how he watched. He is shocked when his Aunt Helen and friend Michael died. They were dear to him. Later, he learns about love, sex, drugs and homosexuality from his friends in the high school, in particular Sam and Patrick. He is depressed when he realizes that his Aunt Helen molested him when he was young. Fortunately, he is able to deal with his problems and he is no longer afraid of going to school. The novel, The Perks of Being A Wallflower, by Stephen Chbosky, discusses how being a wallflower has its disadvantages because no one notices or pays attention to Charlie; he doesn’t usually talk about how he feels and what he thinks, and he always cares about others’ feelings more than his feelings. Chbosky discusses how people don't notice or pay attention to Charlie because he is like a wallflower. The first day of school, Charlie tries to find a friend to have lunch with. Susan, a girl who used to hang out with Charlie in the middle school. Charlie acknowledges people are changing. “To tell you the truth, she doesn’t like to admit she is in the advanced English class, and she doesn’t like to say “Hi” to me in the hall anymore” (Chobsky 7).
