A stereotype is beliefs that people apply to any given individual deemed to be part of that group. Stereotypes can be positive, negative, or neutral. Stereotypes can be found for every race and ethnicity. There are various types of stereotypes; the most common one is racial stereotypes. Whenever we don't have a good understanding of a people, culture, race, religion or countries, then we tend to make assumptions about them. Whenever you make judgments about people without knowing them, you are stereotyping them. Stereotyping makes people generalize things. More often, they are all false assumptions or conceptions. Though there are both positive and negative stereotypes, a majority of them are offensive. People generally stereotype out of bias against a particular group or race. For example, one racial stereotype that people commonly uses “all Asians are Chinese”. Ok, are you serious? China is the only Asian country. How about rest? What they are called? Why do people call or refer the word “Asian” to Chinese and no other ethnicities in Asia. What do you know about Asia, Asia is a continent not an ethnicity? Asia is rich in diverse races, cultures, and languages. Perhaps, China isn’t only Asian country; instead there are lots of Asian countries in the world. Asians are said to have chink or small eyes, a flat nose, and all Asians look identical. I’m like what? Who are these ignorant people? Well Asians are also India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Russia and Middle East too; if you were to define their facial features then what will be your answer. The reason why I’m going back and forth Asian and Chinese because I want to clear up about racial stereotypes about Asians. I’m not trying to offend Chinese racial group or trying to be ignorant all I’m trying to make a differences. As I am an Asian, I respect all races, cultures, languages. Generally, assumptions are made because people do not understand the culture.
