People will do all kinds of things and even risk their lives just to get a little attention. These past years people had reach incredible levels of attention seeking. Celebrities like Miley Cyrus, The Kardashian family and others have been doing outrageous things just to get people to notice them more. Other ordinary people would post bizarre stuff on the social networking sites just for the gain of a little fame. A couple years back, a 14 year old girl posted a video of her shaved both of her eyebrows. “I was bored and I needed attention, so I had to do something.’’ She explained. Her stunt worked, two weeks later her video went viral. Some might think that attention seeking is a normal behavior because it is so common in today’s social media driven society. In reality this is the behavior of an emotionally immature person who has low levels of self-esteem and self-confidence; consequently they feel insecure. To counter these feelings of insecurity, they will spend a large proportion of their lives creating situations in which they become the center of attention. The Urban dictionary describes the term ‘’attention seeker’’ as an individual who will go to any lengths in order to receive attention; it does not matter whether the attention comes from positive or negative means. Although they get a lot of attention, celebrities are often described as attention seekers. Yet they do outlandish and bizarre things to stay in the spotlight. Clearly social media can be one of the places to witness attention seeking behaviors from others.
