Abstract The participant is a 34 year old male. He has been married for 8 years and has three young children with whom he resides. He works in corporate banking operations. Physically he is healthy with no major issues. Based on age alone my subject should be in Erikson’s stage of intimacy vs isolation (McLeod 2008). I believe that he has surpassed the main goal of that stage and has moved into generatively vs. stagnation as he is currently assisting to raise three children and maintain a career in which he can grow and prosper. There were times in the participant’s life in which he was not on track according to some of the popular authorities of the subject. That is what will be discussed in this paper.   Michael White Growth and Development Assessment The participant, Michael, was born on December 29, 1980, in Bradenton, FL. He was the second child to Virginia and Ronald. Their first born arrived 20 months prior. Virginia was a stay at home mom and Ron worked construction. They lived in a two bedroom apartment at the time. Michael was a typical baby with no developmental delays. He did suffer from colic but that surpassed when he was a few months old. He moved through the infancy stage with no burdens on his cognitive development. At this age Erikson states the basic conflict is trust vs. mistrust (McLeod 2008). Starting with a slightly older child, age 5, and then primarily taking infants (White 2015). Where Erikson’s theories focus more on emotional development at this age Piaget sees how the physical growth and development affect the emotional aspect. Age birth to 2 falls under the sensorimotor stage (Papalia, 2012, p.145). This stage consists of six sub stages, use of reflexes, primary circular reactions, secondary circular reactions, coordination of secondary schemes, tertiary circular reactions and mental combinations. Basically the child is learning by interacting with his surroundings by looking, touching and tasting. An initial understanding of cause-and-effect begins. According to his mother Virginia, my participant had no delays during this stage (2015). He followed the lead of his older brother and was extremely active. As he got older Michael stayed extremely active. He liked to do things by himself and was always trying new things (White 2015). He successfully completed Erikson’s second stage, autonomy vs. shame and doubt. Michael was full of energy. As he worked his way through Erikson's stage of initiative vs guilt he definitely began to push the envelope. Since his mother was often busy with the foster children in the home, Michael began to show atten
