The first three paragraphs of chapter fourteen give a thorough description of the Jolly Roger while providing insightful knowledge on the dynamic between Hook and Smee. The first paragraph paints a nightmarish picture of Hook's "brig" or ship. This ship reeks with foulness to the core and is to be esteemed as such. From afar, the pirate ship appears as a force to be reckoned with; a vessel of stealth and a reputation of terror.
