My Experience with Fencing

Some people would portray life as a series of never-ending obstacles that we have to deal with on a daily basis. However, some individuals are not willing to face these challenges, and will quit on their first failure. I was one of those individuals that used to quit on the slightest drawback or mistake that I have faced. I never had the will to accomplish something or to try again after failure, but fencing changed my life, and changed me as a person. Fencing made me realize how overcoming each obstacle life throw at us will make evolve as humans and learn new things that can aide us in our lives. Fencing was my savior and my wakeup call. Behind every great story lies an inception, a realization of a person’s potential and what can they do in their life. When I was in second grade I was still a child, yet different than most of my friends for giving up easily on a challenge or a task that is given to me after failing to do it. I always believed that winning or reaching the goal on the first try was everything and that is what I thrived for when I was younger, but I was wrong. My physical education teacher set up a fencing class for us due to the fact that he is a fencing coach and wanted to introduce us to the sport, each one of us had a try yet no one really enjoyed the sport. However, I experienced the biggest joy of my life when my tiny hands grasped the hilt of the sword and started playing. My coach saw what he called “a potential Olympian” and took me under his wing. My training started with my coach after a week of my ascension as a fencing player. I was thrilled and filled with passion and enthusiasm throughout my training and I can say the same thing about my coach who was a father to me. Moreover, I played several practice matches with my fellow friends and I never lost a match, until the day that changed how I viewed life arrived, my coach decided to step it up a notch and make me play against a more experienced p
