Poetry is a beautiful form of expression. It can bring out the simplest things in life in a very rhythmic and aesthetic pattern. The poet of, “Whoso list to hunt” has beautifully used the English language to bring out his thoughts. Use of metaphors and personification, similes and oxymoron as well as other forms of expression, has enhanced the beauty of their ways of expression. This brings in a lot of beauty and weight to the poem as they imply lot more than just what is stated. They are a beautiful form of expressing deepest of feelings in a short way. Whoso list to hunt is a beautiful sonnet (Nellgavin.com, 2010). The poem, “Whoso list to hunt," written by Sir Thomas Wyatt, is a sonnet written with some Italian words. The poet says that one who wishes to hunt a hind or a female should know that the poet had tried and failed. The labor was futile. He says that even though the dear looks tame, it is not tame and cannot be caught by anybody. He uses a presumption or imagination and says that around its white neck it is written or rather graven in diamonds “touch me not” as it belongs to Caesar and would never go to anybody else (Nellgavin.com, 2010). The tone of the poem is of disappointment as the poet fail sin the chase. He yet admires the deer. He expresses his appreciation of Caesar. He also says that he had not desired to give up and had followed it too far. Yet, his attempts or his chase was as fruitless as trying to catch wind in the net. The sonnet beautifully brings out the appreciation for the deer and Caesar in the process of explaining his chase which finally was futile. He desired to have had the deer, but could not succeed. Yet he doesn’t stop appreciating the deer. There is a deeper meaning as the female deer is presumed to be a reference to Anne Boleyn who was found guilty of adultery. In each genre and literary period, there have been men and women who stood out and became either catalysts of the said genre or pioneered the literary movements of a specific historical period. One such person who was not known was Samuel L. Clemens, famously known as Mark Twain. Mark Twain is known world-wide as a great literary canon in American literature. He is even branded as the father and pioneer of said literature. His works, most notably The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, are known not only as fine examples of American literature and American way of life in the 1800s, but also as those which propelled literary themes that were considered as taboo or controversial. Themes such as racism, slavery, and liberation of the youth were prevalent in his works. They awakened the literary souls of soon-to-be famous writers such that in their own right, they also greatly contributed to the foundation and expansion of American literature. These are the reasons why Mark Twain became so famous that
