Human evolution is a process that happened over 200,000 years ago. The early human life consisted of gathering and hunting food as well as using behavioral tactics to help them survive in the environment. The humans evolved into a very intelligent species. Their intelligence was not always used wisely. In fact their intelligence has caused destruction to planet Earth. The safety of human lives is under threat because of indiscriminate use of natural recourses. Deforestation The world’s forests are vital because they provide unique habitats for many unique species. They also act as a ‘carbon sink’, trapping away lots of carbon in their biomass that was previously absorbed for photosynthesis. Humans have been destroying forests by cutting down trees for thousand of years. However recently the destruction of forests has been speeding up. Deforestation has some important consequences like it reduces the rate, at which carbon dioxide is absorbed, as there are fewer trees and the loss of forests reduces biodiversity, we run the risk of losing organisms that might be useful in the future, for example, as sources of new medicines. Another important consequence of deforestation is soil erosion. Once plant cover is gone there are no roots to hold the soil in place during heavy rains, which then wash away the topsoil and the nutrients necessary to regenerate future vegetation. Water Pollution Effects Human Health People can’t survive without drinking water, and if their freshwater resources are polluted, they can become ill from drinking them. There are pathogens in these waters and they cause illnesses like Cholera and Polio. These illnesses account for almost 60 percent of early childhood deaths worldwide. Polluted water allows successful breeding of insects, the insects then infect humans blood stream, by biting them, causing illnesses like malaria. Some water pollutants don’t directly cause illness, but they do damage human health
