1) Identify something your placement taught you and explain the value this lesson may have in your future Throughout this semester I was faced with over 30 grade 10 students whose skills in math varied from A+ to F. It was a breeze explaining something to a student who was able to grasp concepts easily, whereas explaining something to a student who takes more time to understand concepts was more difficult. Those who were not able to comprehend math problems required more of my patience and time. At the beginning of my placement it was hard to understand how a student couldn’t understand something that seemed so simple. It was also a little frustrating having to repeat myself 10 times just to hear the student repeatedly answer with: “I still don’t get it”. With time I realized that the students had different ways of successfully understanding math concepts: some visually, orally and some with physical objects. Acknowledging the variety of ways to understand something is important in my future as it prevents me from being narrow-minded and reminds me that there is more than one way to do something. Being able to recognize the several approaches to solve one problem can help my relationships with colleagues, friends and future bosses grow stronger as it teaches me to be flexible. 2) Describe the biggest responsibilities this placement placed on you. Be sure to include an explanation of how you handled them. One of the biggest responsibilities this placement placed on me was having to tutor a student who was failing miserably, one-on-one. The student I was faced with had no desire to even try understanding math concepts which made my job very difficult. I continuously tried to keep my cool and understand that others have different strengths and weaknesses but being confronted with somebody who had no desire to learn made me feel as if I was not doing my job right. I didn’t feel the necessity to tell the teacher I was not fit enough to help
