In his "I Have a Dream" speech, Martin Luther King Jr. declared, “I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” This speech was given to over 250,000 civil rights supporters from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during the March on Washington. However, this speech is just King’s most famous achievement of all. As a leader of cilvil rights activist, he did a lot of things for African-American people. So what impact did he have on the world? Martin Luther King Jr. provided leadership to American people, gained attention and respect for the civil rights movement, and forced the American government to give African-American people equality. As a kid who was born in an American family, he was told how people of his skin colour suffered and how they were treated terribly. His father was a pastor. Martin followed in his dad’s footsteps and was ordained and became a minister of a Baptist church in the city Montgomery, Alabama. After that, Martin Luther King Jr. realized he needed to do something. King said, “Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed” (Brainyquote, 2015). So when Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white passenger on a city bus in Montgomery, King made the decision to organize a boycott against the bus transportation. This were the great leadership that Martin Luther King Jr. started. He encouraged people to stand up for their rights and stand up together for the same goal which they want. After this action, he organized the Southern Christian Leadership Conference as the leader.
