According to the statistics, 72% of people agree that its acceptable for students to use mobile phones in class. On the other hand, 28% of people disagree on that statement. Many schools around the world have been introducing the usage of cell phones during classes. Even in Malaysia, this method is also being used. One of the reason is they claimed that it is to prepare the students for adult life; therefore, students should be allowed to use the tools that they will be using in their adult life. However, they are surely unaware of the terrible consequences that will follow up. I reckon that the usage of mobile phones is not necessary to be carried out in class. People from the olden days only survived with very limited Internet access, yet they could still graduate successfully. In addition, only one-eighth of them owned a phone. Hence, why do the students from this generation need to use their mobile phones during classes? Research and readings could be done at home or the library. Besides, students could use the actual calculator during their math class instead of using the calculator installed in their phones. From this, we can conclude that there would always be an alternative method to using mobile phones in class regardless of any purposes. Besides that, mobile phones only act as a distraction in class. I’ve seen pictures of students using social medias or watching unrelated videos on their phone being shared by the friend siting behind them. Students go to school to be educated, not to spend more time on Twitter or Facebook. This simply means that students could be accessing whichever website during their class and teachers would not be aware of it at all. On top of that, if a phone rings, all the students would also be distracted and they could no longer be focused in class.
