Over time it has been said that a wise man learns from experience, but that a wiser man learns from the experience of others. This is certainly true, not in just the aspect of life, but in the aspect of teaching and learning as well. Over the many years that I have been in school, which is 16 and a half years to be exact, I have experienced many different ways of teaching. Not all ways of teaching are as effective on me as others. I guess it really depends on who you are as a person, and what your strengths and abilities are in and out of the classroom. The most effective methods of teaching for me have been guest speakers, hands-on teaching and the newest method called the 3-P grading and learning system. One important benefit I have received from guest speakers is real world knowledge, insights and experiences in the field of study the guest speaker has prepared. The main purpose of a guest speaker is to enlighten you on what they are representing and why it is important and meaningful. Guest speakers come in wide varieties ranging from business associates to cultural enthusiasts. One of the guest speakers I have always remembered was a woman in her late twenties who traveled around spreading the word of gender diversity. Her name was Ella Bollinger and she stood around 5 feet 5 inches tall, with long flowing brown hair and golden brown eyes. Not the regular brown eyes that are dull, Ella had deep brown eyes that turned a beautiful bright reddish brown once she started talking about her passion of gender diversity. Gender diversity is defined as the many different ways a person identifies themselves based on gender. If you had asked me before Ella came and spoke to our class I would have been dumb founded at everything I know now. To see somebody in the classrooms that has a passion and love for what they are doing really helps with the way we perceive things. For example, I have had many teachers that were monotone and had not a single lively bone in their bodies and it made nobody eager to learn anything at all. O
